FAQ

Who is this Naomi character anyway?

I’m a Seattle-based designer who sees creative opportunities everywhere. As an artist, I get inspired by life’s flotsam, and like to arrange random parts in unexpected ways. As a designer, one of my goals is to simplify the needlessly complex information that pervades our world. For example, this paragraph used to be much longer!

Learning new skills is how I stay invigorated. (that, and the lucid dreaming) Hence the welding classes, scuba diving in caverns, cello, tightrope walking, and potato farming. At the University of Washington, I found it almost painful to choose a major. When I finally happened upon graphic design during my second year, I was relieved to find a field that allows lifetime learning in such a wide range of topics: anything from math games to weddings to marine radar to malaria.

Is Naomi the right person for my project?

Quite possibly. I specialize in the following:

  • User experience design and information architecture.
  • Interface and graphic design for digital media.
  • Creative concepting and visual storytelling.
  • Flash application development using Actionscript 3.
  • Prototyping interfaces for usability testing.
  • Translating a company’s visual identity to the Web.
  • Working with and art directing illustrators, writers, and other designers.
  • Animation. From quick banner ads to longer movies.
  • Graphic production and streamlining.
  • Finding stock imagery of handshakes, blue skies, and babies in buckets. (But this might not be the best use of my skills)

Is Naomi available to take on new work?

Yes, I am taking on new projects as soon as 8/15/2011. Let’s talk. I’m always pleased to plan in advance!

Can I hire Naomi for a full time job?

This is a tough question for me to answer. I love working on teams, but also appreciate the flexibility of a freelance work structure. Lately I’ve been acting as a sort of “pressure valve” for design/development firms that need a designer who can fit in seamlessly and meet tight deadlines. I certainly wouldn’t rule out working full time for a single company, but in the past 8 years, the right situation just hasn’t presented itself.

I would like to send Naomi some fresh homemade pies. Is that okay?

Think you can fatten me up?

You’ll need to try a little harder.

I appreciate both sweet and savory pies made with real butter. Just no spinach, please. And please remind me of an upcoming delivery, in the interest of freshness!
